The HOUSE OF BIRDS collection gets its inspiration from Lake Atitlán’s wildlife depicted on the huipiles of Santiago Atitlán, Guatemala. Water, mountains, flowers and tropical birds are the main elements taken from the ceremonial Tz’utujil gowns to the collection with the purpose of alluding its transcending meaning. For the Mayans, the lake is where creation takes place; an entrance to the world of the gods and predecessors. On the other hand, birds symbolize the link between the physical and metaphysical worlds. Their traditional garments, in addition to their rituals, are ways of going back in time and establishing a connection with their ancestors. This collection brings together the Italian leather and accessories with the handmade textiles and the high quality beads manufactured by talented Guatemalan artisans from Santiago Atitlán.
